The 2015 Ford Mustang -- 50 Years of the Mustang

Can you believe the Ford Mustang has been around for 50 years?  Well is has and it has been through many designs changes, special editions, such as the Shelby and Bullitt models, and engine upgrades to make it one of America’s favorite vehicles today.  From how it began, to its integration into our culture and lifestyle, to what we’ve come to expect with every Ford Mustang, the model’s journey has been a long and exciting one.

                                                                                The Beginning

The Ford Mustang was introduced in 1964 and the inspiration behind this new and exciting model was the end of WWII.  Ford wanted a fun car that appealed to Baby Boomers coming home from war.  This inspiration actually made its way into the name of the model, as it was named for the Legendary P51 Mustang Fighter during the war.  The first model was sold for only $2,368 and although it was expected to sell only 100,000 units, the first year saw a total of 400,000 units sold!

Generations of Mustangs

It was clear from the beginning that the Ford Mustang was going to be a hit, and over the years this has not changed.  Not long after its reveal, it made its first movie debut in the famous Bond Series “Gold finger,” in 1964.  The Shelby GT, a higher performance version of the Mustang, was introduced in 1965, and like its master model, is still famous today.  Today, we are in our sixth generation of the Ford Mustang!

Over the years, the Mustang has been in hundreds of movies, shows, songs, and has become an important part of our culture.  From famous Mustangs, such as Steve McQueen’s Bullitt, to favorite platforms, such as the Shelby GT and the Cobra, the Ford Mustang has created a standard for sports cars, and continually improves upon this standard!  It has outlived many other models such as the Pontiac Firebird and continues to dominate in its class.

2015 Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary Model

Ford wanted to celebrate 50 years of success with the Mustang by creating a limited edition 5050th Anniversary 2015 Ford Mustang Anniversary 2015 Ford Mustang.  This model is similar to the 2015 model, but with distinct features added to pay homage to the Mustang’s that came before.  One interesting feature is the faux gas cap on the rear fascia—this is where the gas tank used to be on earlier Mustang models.  Also included is a “50th Anniversary” Logo to indicate the special edition.  One fascinating fact is there will only be 1,964 units for sale—this is the same number for the year the model was created.
