Contrary to its name, Winter Park is not a winter wonderland, since it’s located in sunny Florida. It’s still an excellent place to visit, though, featuring lots of interesting history, proximity to the beach, and a less touristy feel than a lot of other places in the area like Orlando. Orlando is still close by, so you can take a trip to Disney and Universal and then come back! Winter Park is the ideal location for a quiet vacation to a great city, or a close enough location to Orlando that you can enjoy all the amusement parks without the hustle of staying in Orlando, and there’s also plenty to do inside the city.

You might be thinking that Winter Park is a strange name for a city in Florida, but this city was named as such because of its ideal location for wealthy vacationers wishing to escape the wintery states in the north. However, this city wasn’t officially named Winter Park until over twenty years after it was chartered in 1858. Winter Park still has all the great features people came to enjoy in the 1800s like beautiful weather, surrounding nature, and lakes, but now the modernized city also features amazing restaurants and culture that reflect the diversity of this great city.

Cultural festivals and events take place year round, so no matter when you visit Winter Park you’re bound to run into some kind of celebration. There’s also an abundance of museums and galleries. Winter Park is known as the City of Culture and Heritage—and it shows in its various historical and artistic museums. From the Fine Arts Museum to the Hannibal Square Heritage Center to the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens, the museum options are endless. Winter Park is a beautiful place to visit both outside in nature and inside its historic attractions. This city is a great contrast to Orlando with its many amusement parks and attractions; this city provides another kind of entertainment that pairs nicely with the attractions you find next door.
